This is Mary, with Lauren dictating what to write. She is holding Audrey and Will is sleeping, so she asked me to help update their blog.
The surgery was successful with the best possible outcome. They do think she might need a balloon type procedure to the collateral vessel to help it grow, which would be a minor outpatient procedure. They won’t know for sure until she heals, maybe in a few months.
Audrey is doing well in recovery. They removed her from the ventilator this evening and she is breathing well on her own. Her throat is swollen and her voice has not returned completely. Pain medicine is still being administered so she is not fully awake and hasn’t been able to eat very much. Lauren is holding her and Audrey breastfed a little before falling completely back to sleep. We’re hoping she will be able to eat more soon. When she does start to wake a little it is clear that she is uncomfortable. The nurse said the chest tube is probably causing her the most discomfort. Hopefully she will get it out tomorrow, but we will have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, we are all really exhausted! We are just trying to get through the first night, which should be the hardest.
It’s been encouraging to all of us to hear from friends and family that have been praying for Audrey and us, and continuing to pray. Thank You. Hopefully she will keep improving and more tubes will be removed in the next couple days, and we will have more good news to report.
